Scholarships:

The cost of attending the Summer Honors Academy in Music is $350 all-inclusive (tuition, room, board, recreation). To help defray this cost, we offer two different types of scholarships:

Merit-Based and Matching Contributions.

Merit-based aid is limited to $100, and Matching Contributions are limited to $75. While students may combine both types of aid, they are limited to a maximum of $125 in total assistance from the Summer Honors Academy in Music.

Merit-Based

Our merit-based scholarship program benefits students that have participated in musical events beyond their normal school based programs in 2006-2007. For instance:

Scholarships in the amount of $75 will be available for students that participated in:

Scholarships in the amount of $50 will be available for any students that participated in:

Scholarships in the amount of $25 will be available for any student that held a leadership position in the school music program, for instance:

These merit-based scholarships may be combined to a maximum of $100 in total.

Only *IF* you have completed the registration process may you apply for a Merit-Based Scholarship.

Matching Contributions

We encourage students to seek external financial assistance. Our matching contributions scholarship program is designed to supplement, up to $75, monies received from accredited organizations or agencies. Examples of these types of organizations would be civic groups like Lion's or Rotary clubs, school boosters, fraternal or religious institutions.

The Summer Honors Academy in Music will match at a rate of $.50 for every $1.00 received through one of these organizations (up to $75). Please note that individual or private scholarships are NOT eligible and will NOT be matched. For example:

A scholarship from a booster group in the amount of $100 AND a $50 civic organization award ($150 total) would be supplemented with a $75 match for $225 in total scholarship. This would reduce the student's cost of attending the Academy to $125 ($350-$225=$125).

To apply for a matching scholarship, the Summer Honors Academy in Music must receive from the organization:

1) A request for matching funds, on official letterhead, noting the student's name and the amount of the award.

2) The actual scholarship check from the organization offering the scholarship, made payable to West Liberty State College.

NOTE: The Summer Honors Academy in Music will credit the student's fees in the amount of the scholarship (up to $150) plus $.50 for each dollar up to $75. If the external aid is greater than $150, then that amount plus $75 will be credited.
