Welcome Band Directors & Participants
The Tri-State Select Honor Band offers deserving student musicians from the Greater Upper Ohio Valley Region the opportunity to grow in an intensive workshop-type ensemble. Students work for three days with clinicians of the highest caliber. This rewarding experience will bring energy, excitement, and renewed commitment to the home high school band.
MESSAGE FROM THE HOST:
GREAT NEWS! We have secured a grant from the Arts and Ideas program at West Liberty University that will offset a portion of the cost of this year's Tri-State Honor Band! This means that we are able to significantly lower the cost of attending the event - commuters will pay only $40 and residential students will pay only $90 each.
MORE BIG NEWS! This year Dr. Robert Dunham will conduct the Tri-State band. Dr. Dunham is Director of Bands at Georgia Southern University and has served as a guest conductor across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Thank you so very much to each of you that supported the last year's TSSHB—what a tremendous success! As ever, I intend to use that success as a springboard to an even more valuable experience this year. Your students will never forget this experience. In addition to new students, I hope to see each of last year's participants (that didn't graduate) back this year.
As a former public school band director I know how hard you work and the dedication you bring to the students and community. I am excited to offer you and your students this opportunity; I very much look forward to the chance to share my commitment to music education and bands. Your support of this event and assistance in recommending talented young students is a great service!
This year’s Tri-State Select Honor Band will be held from December 5—7, 2013. Our entire instrumental music faculty will be performing and running master-classes for the students. Your students will appreciate the passion, energy, and expertise this faculty brings to their art and our profession. These young people will come away more excited about music making, and that promises to have a lasting impact on your program.
I look forward to working with you to make this event a valuable experience in YOUR eyes; this is how I measure its success! Again, I extend a very sincere thank you, in advance, for taking interest in the event and helping make it musically, professionally, and personally rewarding for you, the parents, and of course the student performers that will attend. The work you do as an instrumental band director is invaluable and greatly appreciated.
In addition, I hope that you can make plans to attend Friday evening's "Prism" Concert presented by the West Liberty Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Marching Band and other chamber ensembles. This event is always a tremendous hit with the honor band students, and it promises to offer a diverse and enjoyable evening of music!
